Homes from the 1970s through 1990s are now hitting the point where original concrete driveways, patios, and walkways are at or past the end of their useful life. Both categories face the same underlying challenge: clay-heavy soils that expand and contract with the seasons, putting constant pressure on concrete from below. A contractor who does not account for this in the base preparation is setting up the new slab to repeat the same failure cycle.

Antioch also sits right on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, which means parts of the city near the waterfront and in low-lying areas can see drainage problems after heavy storms.
